While I am browsing the multiply site of my laboratory instructor in Analytical Chemistry, I saw this blog about a "conversation" of a Philosophy Professor and his student.
(The conversation is a conversation between atheist and theist. A battle between faith and science -- constituting the distinction between finite and infinite, thus, defining what is a God or who is God...)
But let me just clarify: I made this post to let you know people that I am a "believer"(and I'm proud of it)...and not to stir your emotion up and awaken the spirit of "debate"...This is my blog anyway. LOL!
An opinion or two, however, about the post, or the conversation, will be entertained with a great hospitality possible, as long as the opinion is a mere opinion and does not make an evident alteration to its denotation.
So here it is:
An Atheist Professor of Philosophy speaks to his Class on the Problem Science has with GOD, the ALMIGHTY.
He asks one of his New Christian Students to stand and . . .
Professor : You are a Christian, aren't you, son ?
Student : Yes, sir.
Professor : So you Believe in GOD ?
Student : Absolutely, sir.
Professor : Is GOD Good ?
Student : Sure.
Professor : Is GOD ALL - POWERFUL ?
Student : Yes.
Professor : My Brother died of Cancer even though he Prayed to GOD to Heal him. Most of us would attempt to help others who are ill. But GOD didn't.
How is this GOD good then? Hmm?
( Student is silent )
Professor : You can't answer, can you ? Let's start again, Young Fella.
Is GOD Good?
Student : Yes.
Professor : Is Satan good ?
Student : No.
Professor : Where does Satan come from ?
Student : From . . . GOD . . .
Professor : That's right. Tell me son, is there evil in this World?
Student : Yes.
Professor : Evil is everywhere, isn't it ? And GOD did make everything. Correct?
Student : Yes.
Professor : So who created evil ?
(Student does not answer)
Professor : Is there Sickness? Immorality? Hatred? Ugliness? All these terrible things exist in the World, don't they?
Student : Yes, sir.
Professor : So, who Created them ?
( Student has no answer )
Professor : Science says you have 5 Senses you use to Identify and Observe the World around you. Tell me, son . . . Have you ever Seen GOD?
Student : No, sir.
Professor : Tell us if you have ever Heard your GOD?
Student : No , sir.
Professor : Have you ever Felt your GOD, Tasted your GOD, Smelt your GOD? Have you ever had any Sensory Perception of GOD for that matter?
Student : No, sir. I'm afraid I haven't.
Professor : Yet you still Believe in HIM?
Student : Yes.
Professor : According to Empirical, Testable, Demonstrable Protocol, Science says your GOD doesn't exist. What do you say to that, son?
Student : Nothing. I only have my Faith.
Professor : Yes, Faith. And that is the Problem Science has.
Student : Professor, is there such a thing as Heat?
Professor : Yes.
Student : And is there such a thing as Cold?
Professor : Yes.
Student : No sir. There isn't.
( The Lecture Theatre becomes very quiet with this turn of events )
Student : Sir, you can have Lots of Heat, even More Heat, Superheat, Mega Heat, White Heat, a Little Heat or No Heat...
But we don't have anything called Cold. We can hit 458 Degrees below Zero which is No Heat, but we can't go any further after that. There is no such thing as Cold. Cold is only a Word we use to describe the Absence of Heat.
We cannot Measure Cold.
Heat is Energy.
Cold is Not the Opposite of Heat, sir, just the Absence of it.
( There is Pin - Drop Silence in the Lecture Theatre )
Student : What about Darkness, Professor? Is there such a thing as Darkness?
Professor : Yes. What is Night if there isn't Darkness?
Student : You're wrong again, sir.
Darkness is the Absence of Something
You can have Low Light, Normal Light, Bright Light, Flashing Light . . .
But if you have No Light constantly, you have nothing and its called
Darkness, isn't it? In reality, Darkness isn't.
If it is, were you would be able to make Darkness Darker, wouldn't you?
Professor : So what is the point you are making, Young Man ?
Student : Sir, my point is your Philosophical Premise is flawed.
Professor : Flawed ? Can you explain how?
Student : Sir, you are working on the Premise of Duality.
You argue there is Life and then there is Death,
a Good GOD and a Bad GOD.
You are viewing the Concept of GOD as something finite,
something we can measure.
Sir, Science can't even explain a Thought.
It uses Electricity and Magnetism, but has never seen,
much less fully understood either one.
To view Death as the Opposite of Life is to be ignorant of the fact that
Death cannot exist as a Substantive Thing.
Death is Not the Opposite of Life: just the Absence of it.
Now tell me, Professor, do you teach your Students that they evolved from a Monkey?
Professor : If you are referring to the Natural Evolutionary Process, yes, of course, I do.
Student : Have you ever observed Evolution with your own eyes, sir?
( The Professor shakes his head with a Smile, beginning to realize where the Argument is going )
Student : Since no one has ever observed the Process of Evolution at work and
Cannot even prove that this Process is an On - Going Endeavor,
Are you not teaching your Opinion, sir?
Are you not a Scientist but a Preacher?
( The Class is in Uproar )
Student : Is there anyone in the Class who has ever seen the Professor's Brain?
( The Class breaks out into Laughter )
Student : Is there anyone here who has ever heard the Professor's Brain, Felt it, touched or Smelt it? . . .
No one appears to have done so.
So, according to the Established Rules of Empirical, Stable,
Demonstrable Protocol, Science says that you have No Brain, sir.
With all due respect, sir, how do we then Trust your Lectures, sir?
(The Room is Silent. The Professor stares at the Student, his face unfathomable. )
Professor : I guess you'll have to take them on Faith, son.
Student : That is it sir . . .
The Link between Man & GOD is FAITH.
That is all that Keeps Things Moving & Alive.
It turned out later that the student is Albert Einstein.

wow...i love your post...hehe! both philosophically and spiritually stimulating...FAITH, i concur that its the thing that connects us with God. and it is by faith the we believe things that we couldn't see, smell, feel or hear. it is beyond the human senses...even science couldn't explain. besides all the breakthroughs, and scientific innovations...a leap of faith is required to discover something...
thanks for posting this!!! brilliant!
galng tlaga ni albert einstein!
that's when Albert Einstein was just a student. how much more when he was already mature. what great faith!
nice post. actually the questions of the professors is very real, but he simply didn't know who God is and how God works.
I'm an atheist. Trust me, my encounter with countless of religion extremists had tarnished any good images about God.
Tell me, is it our fault when we get sick? Should we all stop taking medications and start praying? Is God the only cure for everything in this world? Are they trying to claim that doctors should not have existed in the first place? Yea, right. Now ladies and gentlemen, chuck your meds aside, make way for the Holy Bible, 100000% guaranteed to cure all your troubles & sickness. Even cancer, worry not, smoke your heart out when you get lung cancer, fret not! The Holy Bible is here to cure you of your cancer!
Nice post anyways. Einstein showed a high-level of maturity for his age.
Yes, I'm extremely bitter on this matter. I'll probably change my view and eat my words when I meet a moderate person. Please, none of those fanatics/lunatics.
Nice one...
Friendship Day request :
I bought one new blog with my friend. So i am kindly requesting you to add Two to blog into your blogroll and visit that blog frequently. That blog will contain entertainment features and stuffs. Looking forward for your cooperation even in that blog too. Thank you friend...
nice one!!!
very smart!
nice post..well even einstein said the the more he studied the universe the more he belived in higher power..
i believe that theres a creator..try to look at the heavens you will see the planets moving mathematically accurate..everything in outerspace moved according to accuracy..it is impossible to tell that this all happen in one explosion?! like the Big Bang Theory says..whew
well its so ironic that some people become more stupid because they are intelligent..sad but true
Waaah no google account... Andrew here...
To share my point of view:
Well, I am a Catholic, yet I am to are unnerved by these religion extremists. But, as the saying goes, never rationalize one people's opinion/mistake to the entire population. Not just because there are extremists/fanatics, all people with religious belief have the same opinion as those extremists.
Well there's that or you've had a traumatic experience with them (totally understandable, hehe).
"Tell me, is it our fault when we get sick? Should we all stop taking medications and start praying?"
Of course not. Remember the saying "nasa dyos ang awa nasa tao ang gawa". IMHO, without you doing anything to help yourself, nothing will happen. The priest in our town said that God offer us guidance.
"Is God the only cure for everything in this world? Are they trying to claim that doctors should not have existed in the first place? Yea, right. Now ladies and gentlemen, chuck your meds aside, make way for the Holy Bible, 100000% guaranteed to cure all your troubles & sickness. Even cancer, worry not, smoke your heart out when you get lung cancer, fret not! The Holy Bible is here to cure you of your cancer!"
This attempted display of sarcasm is a bit of an overkill and a bit insulting. Maybe back off a bit?
BTW I got this email years before, got surprised that it was Einstein who said this. To believe that he failed physics earlier in his life. Hmph must be a terror tezcher.
Argh! no edit button! Hmmm... me again, I've reread your post share my point of view. I take back my statement earlier about backing off a bit.
I notice in my second read that you were insulting those d*mn extremists.
Again note the editing...
WAAAH SORRY I triple posted!
just noticed this post:
"well its so ironic that some people become more stupid because they are intelligent..sad but true"
Well not necessarily "became stupid". We do not even know the absolute truth to say we are right and they were wrong. We just have faith that we are going in the right direction. Parang kapag me probset ka eh may faith ka na tama ang sagot mo... wahahaha. Maybe a better word is "faith drifting away"... IMHO po
hi, have linked you on my blog...nga pla, recommend you to read: the devil and miss prymm by paolo coelho:

Yeah, just to clear the air, I'm directing it to those aforementioned extremists. Sometimes I do wonder why the only ones we got here are all a bunch of lunatics. I've had someone from the church SMS-ing me for what seems like an eternity trying to get me to the church. To be honest, they really creep me out!
Let me try and recall, the only one I've met are some people from Jehovah Witnesses and some new church that had just been established in 1980 by some weird doctor. And some even weirder groups telling me that Catholics are a cult because they're praying to Mother Mary and stuff. -_-' Oh, please. Like everyone is claiming they're the true path of life. Before I forget someone who tolf me it's a sin to mention words such as fat, bad, sarcastic, or even menstruation/period. Following that she told me, you, Andrew had sinned by mentioning the word 'sarcasm'. *coughs* As far as I'm concerned every religious person I've met is not in the right state of mind because they're so eager to prove that the other church isn't valid and so on.
"Andrew had sinned by mentioning the word 'sarcasm'"
WAHT? ROFL! Just laughed myself out when I read this. Heh your anger to those extremists are understandable. hehehe
"And some even weirder groups telling me that Catholics are a cult because they're praying to Mother Mary and stuff"
Meh... Catholics are not really "praying and wishing" to Mama Mary directly, just thru intercession (meaning she will pray for us and stuff). I don't blame them too since every person has a different interpretation of the writings in the bible.
"As far as I'm concerned every religious person I've met is not in the right state of mind because they're so eager to prove that the other church isn't valid and so on."
Well... I don't know about them. For me, I'm a type of christian that shares my opinion, yet do not say that a person's opinion about his religion is wrong just because his/her opinion is not in colleague with my beliefs.
I'm glad to hear those sensible words. So far, the only thing on their minds is to prove their church is superior. I don't like people who keep on condemning others for not sharing the same beliefs.
Andrew, chorvahin mo pa yang kausap mo para dumami ang comments! Hehe. Mahabang diskusyon yan ah!
P.S. It was said that that student was Albert Einstein. Well, the story is apocryphal. Atheists and fanatics are still debating on who "owns" Einstein.
There was this last letter Einstein wrote to one of his colleagues saying, "the concept of God is nothing but a product of human weakness."
I doubt the authenticity of this post/article's claim. It's easy to append names to articles though. But even so, no one's really sure that that letter was of Einstein's.
Furthermore, I don't think most physicists are atheists. I know physicists and they say they appreciate more the work of a "God" with physics.
I'm not making any sense here.
"Andrew, chorvahin mo pa yang kausap mo para dumami ang comments! Hehe. Mahabang diskusyon yan ah!"
WTF?! wahahaha.
"I don't think most physicists are atheists"
Well true, but it is one of the most common misconceptions; when man is attuned to science, he/she is atheist. Since many people have different mindsets, we can clearly say that this is a fallacy.
Bol and leoj blog naman kau jan! isang linggo na ha, and tapos na ang mga exam. hikhikhik X)
